Worklofts is a thoughtful interplay o old and new, commercial and residential, and personal and professional. Along Carlaw Avenue the facade consists of the lower four floors clad in a more traditional brick to blend in with the historic brick warehouses of the area. At the fifth floor level is a setback which separates the heavy traditional design below from the light modern design above. At this level the design elements change to an extensive use of glass and aluminum along with balconies and terraces for the remaining seven floors. While the context of the area's history has influenced certain aspects of the exterior design, an eye to the future has directed the rest.
Forged from steel and concrete, finished with brick and glass, Flatrion lofts is the statuesque loft building in the emerging Queen East Village, second phase of Worklofts. Flatirons lofts completes the transformation at Dundas and Carlaw by creating an intimate community for the residents, mixed with boutique style merchants at street level. Modern crisp lines of architecture will catapult the neighbourhood into the new millennium.
